Info
DFRNT is a music producer, DJ and (by day) a web designer from Edinburgh, Scotland.
His first dubstep experience was after seeing a flyer for Kode9 in Dundee back around 2000, while at University. His curiosity led him to check out some of the tracks Kode9 had on his site. Had he realised quite what he'd stumbled upon at the time, I think he'd have got far more involved right there and then, but having only scratched the surface, he left it alone to build momentum unawares to him.
Having properly discovered Dubstep in 2007, DFRNT jumped at the opportunity to try his hand at production. He had worked on a number of styles in the past, all developing out of his previous production work on mashups and bootlegs.
Within a few weeks, he had worked up a furious remix of Dead Prez's "Hip Hop" and with a solid base of feedback, decided to work on a number of entirely original tracks. One thing led to another, and Insectmind picked up a couple of tracks for use on their "Fixations" compilations.
DFRNT's previous production work under other aliases, (including mixtapes, mashups, unofficial remixes and original production from chill-out stuff, to drum & bass) has seen small success on national radio stations, in podcasts, and in clubs and around the world. Most notably a Saturday night slot on XFM's 'The Rinse' show. It was not however until DFRNT's dubstep production work surfaced that things started to get serious.
Currently DFRNT has completed his debut EP, and a number of other small releases. He's working on an full-length album for the future, and also runs the Echodub production collective, and his reviews blog Sitting Ovation.
